Family Spring Break at the Beach Guide

Spring break is in the air, and we’re here to dish on where you should stay, where you should eat, and what you should do here in Myrtle Beach in March and April. But we are not focusing on the college crowd, we are recommending our top five family-friendly picks (aside from camping out on the beach, of course) for each section as a helpful guide.

WHERE TO STAY

Dunes Village Resort, 5200 N Ocean Blvd, Myrtle Beach

Home of one of Myrtle Beach’s best indoor waterparks, Dunes Village Resort offers plenty of family playtime on the speed water slide or winding slide, indoor and outdoor pools, indoor and outdoor lazy rivers, Silly Submarine splash area, and three whirlpools. The resort also has family meals covered when you’re ready to refuel, with the onsite Admirals Room, Captain’s Café, Perk’s Up Coffee Shop, and Cabana Tiki Bar.

Crown Reef Beach Resort and Waterpark, 2913 South Ocean Blvd., Myrtle Beach

With waterpark in its name, this is a resort you know you need to book for your family! The waterpark itself towers nearly 40 feet above ground and features 600 feet of slides, including a 278-foot-long two-person tube waterslide, a single-person 302-foot-long waterslide, and an 8-foot-tall 20-foot-long slide for the little ones. Salty’s Splash House is also located within the park, complete with dump buckets, a treehouse, and silly sub to climb through. Beyond the waterpark, there are 15 more water features, such as the large oceanfront pool, 11 whirlpools, the longest oceanfront lazy river, more kiddie pools, and indoor pools. The Town Center Dining, Entertainment and Fun Zone is another family meeting place, featuring a newly expanded arcade, the Loco Gecko restaurant, and an ice cream shop.

The Breakers Resort, 2104 North Ocean Blvd., Myrtle Beach

Your family will love all 19 water amenities at Breakers, indoors and out, including their brand-new indoor Cove Waterpark, where you can all slip, slide, and speed down the Myrtle Mayhem, Riptide Racers, Torpedo Shoot, and Twisted Typhoon. Splash the rest of the day away in the indoor and outdoor pools, indoor lazy river, the sunken pirate ship, and hot tubs. When it’s time to refuel, hit the Rusty Reel, the Ben & Jerry’s ice cream parlor, Starbucks, and more. Then it’s back to more fun in the spring sun with shuffleboard and cornhole games.

Grande Cayman Resort, 7200 North Ocean Blvd, Myrtle Beach

Grande Cayman Resort (formerly Long Bay Resort), is a family-friendly oceanfront oasis that will pamper you and the kiddos on the quieter north end of Myrtle Beach. You’ll be laughing out loud, though, when racing down their three-story waterslide or the Silly Sub Waterpark, gliding along the indoor 250-foot-long lazy river, or just jumping into any of the kiddie pools or indoor/outdoor pools. The fun continues with the resort’s large layout of games, like shuffleboard, Ping-pong, a giant chess and checkerboard, and mini golf. Dining options are also aplenty on the property or nearby for family meals; choose from Starbucks, Due South at 72nd, Turtle Bay Cafe, and a Tiki Bar (for. 

Landmark Resort Hotel, 1501 South Ocean Blvd., Myrtle Beach

Be one of the first to slide down Landmark’s all-new expanded H2OASIS outdoor waterpark, a 9,800-square-foot facility featuring three 40-foot-tall slides, a smaller lion slide for the wee ones, a jungle-themed water splash area, plenty of lounge chairs for parents to sunbathe and relax, and a snack hut. It’s all accessible from the resort via a covered walkway that crosses over Ocean Boulevard. On the resort side, an indoor water complex includes a heated pool, a 300-foot-long lazy river, kiddie fun pool, and standout dolphin fountain. Outdoors, there is an oceanfront pool and lazy river. Look for Salty the Shark to make an appearance on the pool deck! Additional amenities are the Gazebo Restaurant for breakfast, Latitudes Bar & Grill for lunch or dinner, Havana Java Bar or Shark Bites Snack Bar anytime, and video arcade.

PopStroke, 1187 Celebrity Circle, Myrtle Beach

PopStroke just opened its 11th location in the country right here in Myrtle Beach within Broadway at the Beach on March 4. The new outdoor attraction is the perfect place to have family fun, featuring two 18-hole mini golf courses, an open-air dining space, an outdoor beer garden serving craft beers and cocktails, an outdoor playground, oversized flat screens throughout, an ice cream parlor onsite scooping up 24 flavors and milkshakes, and outdoor games, like ping-Pong, foosball, and corn hole.

The technologically advanced golf concept, partnered with Tiger Woods and TaylorMade, allows golfers of all skill levels to keep track of their scores from their smartphones and their jumbotron leaderboard, as well as order drinks and food for delivery, through their PopStroke app.

Brookgreen Gardens, 1931 Brookgreen Drive, Murrells Inlet

Brookgreen Gardens is a must-visit with the kids – especially when spring is in bloom. You will all love roaming through the gardens (and stopping to smell the roses), a beautiful blend of art, nature, and history. Brookgreen dates back to 1931, founded by Archer and Anna Hyatt Huntington and is designated a National Historic Landmark and listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

In addition to the sculpture and botanical gardens, Brookgreen also has the Lowcountry Zoo, which is a delight that has earned accreditation by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums. And their creek excursions by boat start up March 6, plus there is a full schedule of tours, programs, special events and exhibits each season.

Hollywood Wax Museum, 1808 21st Ave. North, Myrtle Beach

On a rainy day, escape to the West Coast and beyond at the Hollywood Wax Museum, where you can pose for a pic beside lifelike A-list celebrities, pop stars, and sports icons. Also under the same roof are Hannah’s Maze of Mirrors, a fun fairytale quest at every twist and turn, and, for the older kiddos, Outbreak – Dread the Undead, an adrenaline-fueled zombie apocalypse race to survival.

Fish Finder Fishing Charter, 4123 US 17 Business, Murrells Inlet

Hit the water of the inlet with the family to truly experience salt life on a fishing charter! The crew and local captains of Fish Finder pride themselves on providing a family-friendly experience for all angler skill levels. Choose from an inshore expedition to fish for flounder, trout, redfish, and black drum or venture further for a nearshore charter to reel in larger fish, such as Spanish mackerel, cobia, sharks, and more.

Our handful of local breweries aren’t just hotspots for grownups for craft beer, they’re also family-friendly gathering spots. Try Crooked Hammock Brewery in Barefoot Landing in North Myrtle Beach, complete with a packed menu and a lawn filled with outdoor games, hammocks, of course, live music, and a nearby playground.

LuLu’s North Myrtle Beach, 4954 Highway 17 South, North Myrtle Beach

Also located within Barefoot Landing is LuLu’s, a fun restaurant and hangout along the Intracoastal Waterway. Mom and Dad can dine and drink a craft beer or cocktail, while watching the kids play in the arcade, play games on the sandy beach, or climb the Mountain of Youth Ropes course onsite.

RipTydz Oceanfront Grille & Rooftop Bar, 1210 North Ocean Blvd., Myrtle Beach
