Parking And Parking Meters

Parking information for the City of Myrtle Beach

Paid parking is in effect from 9:00 a.m. to midnight, seven days a week.

Parking meters have been a fixture in downtown Myrtle Beach since 1947 when 300 meters were installed by the Duncan Meter Company of Chicago. Today, they help manage high-demand parking areas and facilitate turnover in busy spots.

Exclusions: South Carolina exempts vehicles displaying valid Handicap Placards, Purple Heart, Disabled American Veterans, or Medal of Honor license tags from paying at public-operated parking meters. Newly issued "military plates" also qualify for free parking, but certain conditions apply.

Meter Locations and Hours: Paid parking is enforced from 9:00 a.m. to midnight, seven days a week. Rates vary depending on location, with options for hourly or all-day parking. Beach access and core business districts have different rates and regulations.

Hourly Rates for Parking Meters and Pay Stations:

  • Beach Accesses & Street Ends (City Wide): $3.00 per hour or $15.00 for all-day parking.

  • Core Business District: $2.00 per hour. No all-day single rate applies.

  • Secondary Areas: $2.00 per hour, with $10 for all-day parking available.

Please note the specific streets and avenues where these rates apply.

Payment Methods: Parking meters accept U.S. coins and, in some cases, credit and debit cards. Pay stations offer additional payment options, including contactless methods like NFR/NFC payments and smartphone apps like Text-2-Park and ParkMobile.

Visitor Parking Passes: A seven-day visitor parking pass is available for $50 from the Reef Parking Office in the Pavilion Parking Garage. This pass allows parking in all paid public metered areas throughout Myrtle Beach for seven consecutive days.

Non-Resident Parking Placard: For $100 per year, non-residents can obtain a parking placard from the Reef Parking Office. This pass is valid in designated metered spaces and street-ends within specified areas of the city but excludes "decal only" parking areas.
