Myrtle Beach Memorial Day Weekend Round-Up

  By  Shelbi Ankiewicz

In Myrtle Beach, Memorial Day is considered the weekend that launches summer into full swing. At this time, the public schools are only days away from summer break, the temperatures are steady in the 80s, and everyone is ready for beach picnics and time in the water. So, between this and the rich history the city holds with the previously known ‘Splinter City,’ later developed as the Myrtle Beach Air Force Base, it’s no surprise that there’s a surplus of things to do to honor and celebrate our veterans on this day.

If you’re lucky enough to head into town during this weekend, you might want to check out one (or more!) of the following events:

Horry County Junior ROTC Drill Meet

Join us at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 3, for the fourth annual Horry County Junior ROTC Drill Meet. It will be in the Myrtle Beach Pelicans' parking area. All nine Horry County high schools will participate. Then at noon, stick around for the Military Family Members' Social in the picnic area at the Pelicans' stadium. The lunch is for those with family members in the military or going off to the military. Here you can share information with the Blue Star Mothers and others. Admission is free for all. Visit www.militaryappreciationdays.com for more information.
